This is the World of WARcraft - Therefore it is safe to say that the game will have plenty of battles. The world that WoW takes place in is plagued by constant conflicts, and the player has the opportunity to shape and affect the world itself. Set 5 years after the end of Warcraft 3, WoW will thrust you directly into a new dilema. This time, the conflict is between the Alliance of Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves, and Night elves; versus the Horde of Orcs, Undead, Tauren, and Trolls.

Which side will you be on? Whichever side you choose, it will ultimatly affect your gameplay. In World of Warcraft, the two sides are unable to group, be guilded, or even help one another with beneficial spells. If your friend is playing in the Horde, and you are a member of the Alliance, you will not be able to play cooperatively together. However, there is one other option besides cooperative play - PVP. Even the best designed AI eventually can be "figured" out by a clever player. In some video games, the designers allow the computer to "cheat," or give it knowledge that a player would not have in order to make the computer "seem" smarter. Ultimately, there is no greater thrill than putting the hurt down on another human opponent. In fact, many classic game teaches us how to compete against one another - chess, checkers, poker! World of Warcraft is no different.

World of Warcraft, in it's beta stage, has essentially 3 different types of Player versus Player experiences. The first type is what Blizzard calls the "Standard Player Vs. Environment". The server that this resides on will be closest to a "normal" server when compared to other MMORPGS. The second type is the "Race Wars Server". It is designed for those who have tried and loved player vs player in other games, and want as much of it as possible. Both servers will have large amounts of dynamic content created BY the players just by their actions taken against opposing players, but there are important differences between them. The third type of PVP Combat offered will be duels. Given the fact they are consensual, they really don't belong in either category, since you can /duel someone even from your own faction. Other types of servers have been mentioned, such as a Free-For-All type combat, however specific information has not been given yet, only that they may be available after release.
